Our farm dog class will prepare you for the AKC Farm Dog Certification Test and will give you the basic foundation skills required to progress further with herding training. The basic test requirements are designed to emphasize a dog's ability of self-control, confidence and trust necessary to succeed in any canine/human partnership. All dogs new to training at Ruff Row Ranch are required to start with our farm dog class before they pursue further herding training.
Following the AKC Certified Farm Dog test outline, our farm dog class will cover a series of twelve exercises that represent situations a farm dog would encounter in a typical farm environment. The basic exercises will expose the dog handler team to friendly strangers, introduction to livestock (the dog will not actually work stock) and exposure to farm environment including loud noises that might occur on a farm.
The course will be classes of 45 minutes for 6 weeks and cost will be $135.00
Once your dog has passed farm dog class they should be ready to start introductory herding classes.
In our herding classes you and your dog will be introduced to working a variety of livestock. Livestock may include sheep, goats, geese or ducks.
Your dog will have 2 sessions of approximately 10 minutes each perclass. The dogs progress more quickly when they train for a short period of time, for multiple sessions rather than working for 20-30 minutes straight. This also gives the handler opportunity to watch and learn from others working while waiting for their turn.
Classes are $25.00 each, with limited space available.
We will be offering agility classes as demand warrants. We keep our classes very small so you and your dog can maximize results from your lesson time.
