Here at Ruff Row we raise ducks and geese for herding and egg production purposes. We feel ducks are the "underdog" in the poultry world. Hobby farmers and back-yard farmers across the nation are raising chickens for eggs but they don't know what they are missing! Duck eggs are amazing for baking and are tasty too and have a whole list of other benefits too-see here. We have chosen to raise heritage breeds of duck "Campbells", and "Indian Runners" as well as keeping some Call Ducks for herding training purposes (and because they are so cute!)
We raise our poultry as naturally as possible feeding them as much kitchen/garden scraps as possible. In the winter we sprout fodder for the birds to supply them with fresh greens. We like to keep the % of commercial feed in their diet to 50% or less.
We have hatching eggs available most of the year and chicks/ducklings periodically throughout the year, and occasionally adolescent and mature birds. And if you are local, we also sell eggs for your culinary delight!
Campbell Ducks-we have both Khaki and the much less common dark campbell varieties. Campbells are known as the layers of the duck world-often outlaying the most efficient breeds of egg laying chickens. They are calm in nature.
